Pictures of Miss E in her Gifts

My friend Laurel sent me these cute monogrammed bloomers for my girl. They are adorable! Laurel makes them at Lucy's Pocket and she also kindly sent me the bib Ellie wore on her first birthday party in China. (It was an intimate party of 3 with a lemon muffin from the Seven 11 across from the White Swan. She liked squishing the muffin. I'll look for pics.) So here is Miss E's cute lil self in her personalized bloomers! Thank you, Laurel! I thought it would be no problem to take a picture of my busy bee Elena's bottom as she's always on the go, crawling or pulling herself up. First time ever she kept sitting down. Of course!

Waaaaay back when, my aunt Karen and her friend Marianne sent this to Ellie. Marianne made custom dress with proceeds going to MS research. Extended story here in the comments.. Thank you!
Now for this photo session, Ellie wanted to get up and go. Bad camera, active girl, ribbon and runny nose is a tough combo when you want a pretty picture! Still, the dress is gorgeous and I'm just so pleased it fit her!

Year of the Ox

Bullet style. No bullets though as I STILL can't figure them out!

We are celebrating the Chinese New Year with the local F@milies With Children from China on the 8th. This year I get to go with my daughter! Woo-hoo!

Ellie seems to have caught a cold and is snorting up a storm. We went out to lunch with my mom and Ellie proceeded to vomit all over my mom who was holding her at the time. SO AWFUL! Poor Ellie! Poor my mom! Poor the diners next to us! We quickly cleaned E and mom up, paid and ran outta there. We had to laugh after 'cause it had me in tears! My mom is such a trouper and Ellie seems to be doing much better and it has gone back to just a snotty nose. Sadly being under the weather, she has brought back some of her older hitting her forehead habits. We were doing so well moving past them. I put a humidifier (I know-who needs one of those in the south?) in her room but I just turned it off as I think it is freaking her out.
Always something.

I have a date night tomorrow to see Ave. Q.

Fingers crossed for my March LIDders that the "horrid" case option (thru 3/7) at least happens in the next referral batch. Can't believe it's been worse than horrid so often.

Working on a new blog layout (Yeah, I know, I can't even get the bullets working!) I started this one so long ago many of the new applications aren't available!

This is my last week of maternity leave. Very sad. Looking at the new school budget though it is lucky I have a job. Still, very sad.

Why is my only option to see the second half of the new P.B.S. version of Wuther.ing Heights at the ridiculous time of 2 a.m.? WHY? Now, when I first returned from China, that might have been an option with the jet lag but not now! I'm yawning at 7 p.m.!

Debz, I'm working on my fabulous blogs post. =)

Ok, off to bed if I don't get distracted first...

Playdate 2

We had such a good time with Matt and K. on Saturday at the mall play park (see post below) that on Sunday we went there again to meet up with Jenny and Abby ! It was wonderful to finally to show off our little girls, exchange stories and get some reassurance! My camera was acting up so I only got a few photos. Abby/"Abba" is simply beautiful! She looked like a little doll running around.

She loved hopping and jumping around. Good thing she starts gymnastics next week, Jenny!
Ellie was a bit under the weather but enjoyed the crawling and pulling up fun. Watching Abby I was reminded that I have lots of changes to watch for over this next year with Ellie! They grow up so fast.

Looking back it was "only" in December 2007 (LID 12/7/05) I was at her baby shower and then she attended my shower for Ellie in November 2008 (LID 2/16/06). It is crazy how our LID's (dossier log in dates) were so close and yet pretty much a year had gone by!

Playdate 1

Our playdate with Jenny and Abby was moved to Sunday and with several hours open before nap time we blackmailed, err, I mean persuaded Matt to join us.

Scoping out the place.
Maaaaatttt! I've gotta places to go, people to see...
Oooh, a nose. I like poking those!
Not impressed. This nose isn't at all squishy like my dog Gracie's...
Pretty girl!
Stuck.
Ummm, there seems to be a problem with this ride...
K.exhausted after chasing Ellie around!

A Playdate Tomorrow with....

Abba & Jenny! Finally we're meeting up. I'm bringing along my mommy's helper (my niece, y'all! Not the R0lling Stone's kind!) to "watch/play" with the girls so Jenny and I can gab a bit.
Camera's will be snapping of course!

Stork for Marchers

Rumor has it that the stork has been released. After the rumor of 23 days (ok, I wasn't falling for that, hoping maybe...) now the rumor is only two measly days of referrals. Hoping this rumor is wrong as well and the CC@@ makes it much farther into the week.

Ellie and I are doing well. She is such a joy and her giggles and that sparkle in her eyes is beautiful. It's MUCH MUCH MUCH harder than I ever dreamed about though in many ways and once I go back to work, well, I just don't know how you all do it! E and I are truly lucky that my mom will be babysitting her during the day while I am at school. Still, trying to take this last week to get organized and write lesson plans, etc. during her naps. Rather be taking my own nap, honestly! She is a busy little bee! Any suggestions on how to manage going back to work and exercising and doing work-homework and getting places on time and not letting the little things get to you are welcome!

Playdates for Mommy and Ellie

Last Friday my SIL D. and my brother agreed to babysit Ellie so I could go out for a bit. Ellie's cousin K. was at Giggy's house for a scoochie (sleepover) night but my SIL had her hands full with their little man, D, and Cousin Ellie over to play! I really appreciated the evening out and I know Ellie enjoyed spending time with the family!

Playdate with Friends

Because all three of us moms work for schools (well I don't this month) we decided to get together for a playdate/lunch. We went to the local mall on a holiday. Bad move. Sooo crowded! Plus the playpark was recently renovated. Now instead of climbing on a hot dog and a spilled drink there is a "shipping" theme which has an annoying shipping barge horn in the background. Anyway. The kids seemed to have fun, we got to gab a bit, I got to show off Ellie and lunch was a big hit! =)
Beautiful A.
The "crew"! T,L, and J. These three know how to pose!
Ellie Belly checking out the dolphin.
This is D taking a break from winning the ladies over.

Well, I wouldn't want to show off my 10 month old studly walking skills in front of all these people now, would I?!

Borrowed Photos from Ellie's SWI (2005)

Ellie stayed in the Xingfeng Social Welfare Institute in Jiading City for most of her first year. These pictures are borrowed from the yahoo group. The SWI was five hours away from our base city of Nanchang and she was the only girl in our group coming from there. We were not able to visit. Thank you to the group for letting me post these pictures for my family, friends and Ellie. Hard to believe she spent nights in a room/crib like this. She tends to sleep sideways in her crib these days.
I've been reading more about the area and they are famous for their navel oranges.

A Month Ago Today...

Ellie and I went to the Civil Affairs/Adoption Offices in Nanchang. The other seven families in our group of nine were getting their babies and more paperwork was to be signed. We saw Ellie's nanny and the director of the orphanage again. The Director felt Ellie's calf (Ellie was in the Er.go holder which is VERY difficult to put on by oneself, BTW). She looked disapprovingly at us and probably told our guide I didn't dress Ellie warmly enough! Then I went into a little room where I was asked several questions: Was I satisfied with Ellie? What was my job? Why did I want to adopt her? What were my plans for her education? Did I promise not to abandon her? It was very short and perfunctory. Then we got this picture taken. I think it's a very cute one of us! You can see it better if you click on it. =)
Ellie had been mine since she was placed in my arms the afternoon before (Sunday) and I signed agreeing to take her forever. But that Monday and Ellie and I were officially a family according to Jiangxi, China!

She is blossoming every day. Hasn't walked yet but is standing for really long periods of time. Ultrasound for kidney stones (melamine scare) was normal and so far except for the bloodwork which was botched (it clotted?) after blowing both arm veins and has to be redone (I know!!) her health and development appear good. She loves tumbling around, talks and sings, imitates and very much enjoys macaroni and cheese! Not only that but does she ever wear it (the cheese) well! She is so happy and observant. Wants to get into EVERYTHING! Prefers toys that are not plastic and bright to those resembling a computer, printer, cell phone, etc. Her cousin, K., is so good with her and is excited about attending the local Chinese New Year festivities with her cousin in a matching outfit!
I am loving "stalking" those families in China now (see right hand column to follow along) even more now that I've been through the process. I wish I had been able to do more but we were quarantined the last few days in Guangzhou due to one of the girls in our group having been diagnosed with chicken pox. There was a possibility that we would have to stay 10-15 days longer, quarantined in the hotel! After living in a hotel for almost two weeks (and having stomach problems the last week), news of staying longer -even at a hotel as grand as the one we were at- was not enticing! The little girl with the chicken pox and her family are now home and doing well. She had obviously caught it at the orphanage and the other little girl from the same orphanage has shown no signs of it. We were in contact with the US authorities and CDC and they were very accommodating. The girls were inoculated and 24 hours later showed no signs so we had 24 hours to leave the country. The gentleman from the consulate even came out to meet us after our final physical as we were sitting on the bus praying we would be able to leave that Christmas afternoon. He was our Santa that day, handing us our brown envelopes to get back home! Thus, we have no official red couch photo of the girls in their cute Chinese outfits. Amazing how each person's trip to China is soooo different?! =)
Anyway, hang in there, all of you still waiting. I haven't forgotten the wait and how hard it was, now I'm just too busy to think about anything but my daughter and when do I get my next nap! You'll get there, too. =)

Also, thank you all for the sweet comments about Ellie's photos. I will post a few more in a few days just 'cause she's absolutely adorable!

UPDATE Didn't I say she wears the cheese well? Seems Matthew had some time on his hands and is a bit concerned about the amount of mac'n'cheese Ellie is consuming. =)
Really I DO feed her other things... Can I put barrettes in this new 'do????

UPDATE 2 Rumor has it that there will be 23...yes, 23 days worth of referrals next. Dare we believe?! The guide in China said he thought things would pick up, but my goodness! Bring 'em on! =)
