I'm here...I think...

Congratulations to my friend Gini and her husband Jay on their new son, Bennett George (Ben). He was born yesterday and is a handsome little guy. She was emailing us all an hour after the event. She's amazing!

Now on to the basics.
Computer is still down and the laptop I own won't allow me to see word verifications so I'm not able to post on some of your blogs. I am reading though! So no shower pics and no word on travel still. When looking at the consulate appointment dates for those referred right before me, it really does look like late December or even January travel. Makes me so sad. That will be definitely over 8 weeks since I saw Ellie's adorable face. At least I might be able to meet up with the 2/17 group at the White Swan. A positive.

I noticed today is 33 months since LID. The 16th is etched in my mind forever! The wait is interminable and I truly feel for those of you still hanging in there. It flat out sucks.

So I broke down and sent a care package through blessed.kids. My agency never came out and said I couldn't and I didn't ask. So there. =P The SWI received it on 11/10 and supposedly asked when I was coming =( and where I lived. I guess I didn't put that in the translated letter? Who knows. The exciting part is that I got updated stats on her Saturday. Sounds like she is continuing to stay right in the average range of growth and she has one upper tooth! Snaggletooth baby! I imagine another should be breaking through soon?! Also, she wears size 12 shoes but I can't figure out what scale they are using. Ellie will turn one on December 20th and is 17 lbs. 10 oz. so it looks like she's still wearing 9 month clothing but on the edge. Now if I could only figure out what size diaper. They start a new size at 18 lbs. The things on my mind these days...
But mostly I can't tell you how thrilling it was to get an update. Made my weekend.

I really can't wait to share some of the shower pics with you. Again, it was a gorgeous time.

Oh, and I got my hair cut really short yesterday. Not sure how I like it but luckily it grows back fairly quickly. I know...need pics!

I don't remember the baby sizes in shoes - but when I went back the 2nd time - the girls were wearing a size 22 at 27 mos. old. But - my girls have HUGE feet!
Did you get updated pics too?? I hope so - that would be the best part.
Okay - and the one upside - I just looked at the calendar. If you don't leave until sometime in the 2nd week of us coming back to school - you'll get to stay out all the way through Spring Break - which would take you until April 20th - THAT would be good!

It's so great that you got an update! And I'm sure it's a great relief to not have to commemorate the 16th each month anymore!

Definitely need hair pics please!!

Ahhh... I thought you might have some travel news... no such luck, hey? Thinking of you!

I reckon I'd go for a diaper size that has 17lb's in its mid range? (do they have something like that?) You might find Elena is a bit smaller when you finally meet her!

Great news on the update! And wonderful that you know they got your package. I know our agency doesn't like people sending packages... but I've never been a stickler for rules!!!

Hope you hear something soon on your travel dates! You watch, you'll have like 10 days to get ready to go, or something like that!!

Ohh, the Chinese shoe sizes are so different . . . I don't remember how they compared to US sizes. I still have Mali's squeaky shoes that I bought in China while we were there - I could go look to see if they have a Chinese size imprinted on them.

I think we used size 3 diapers for a while. My guess would definitely be 3 for E's diaper size. Bigger is always better than smaller b/c it means more surface area to absorb =) You can always buy diapers in China but they don't hold up as well as US diapers.

We were in China right after Xmas to Jan 11. Was a great time to be there!

Good luck getting the computer back up!!!

Yes girl, we NEED photos!!! I want to see shower photos and hair photos! Could they get any updated photos of Elena? She's just a little peanut!!! Like I said before, I hope you are in China sooner rather than later but you can always meet up with us 17ers!!! Hugs

I've been lurking for a while and have never posted but I have to chime in on the diaper thing. If the new size starts at 18 pounds get it! It is usually better to have a slightly bigger diaper then a slightly smaller one. Less blowouts that way. I have always moved my son up to the new size as soon as he is at the lowest wight limit. And if it's time to get a new box and he's just a pound or two away from the new size the get the new size anyway. I also have an in home daycare and I have my daycare parents send the bigger sized diapers too. It's so much easier to contain the big messes that way! Some people have said the there can be more leaks out the legs with a bigger diaper but I haven't ever had leg leak problems with my son or daycare kids. That is with anyone over about 6-8 months. Just my two cents!

I can't wait to watch you travel to China so bring your sweet baby home! I hope it will miraculously be sooner rather then later. This last part of the wait must be the hardest.

gosh, i'm in the same boat with diapers - our gal is 15 lbs as of 11/13/08 so i bought size 2 diapers knowing that i'll be in size 3 soon!!! hope your computer is not TOTALLY buttafucco :)

I would definiately go with the size 2 diapers. Our Mia was only 16lbs at 8 mos and was in size 2 for a while. Pampers does sell a size 2-3 which is a size in between. You will need at least a mega pack for the 2 weeks you are there. Keep in mind they will take up room on the way there, but since they will be used up, it leaves room for extras to take home.
