A solar eclipse, which the Chinese word for is 'Rishi', meaning 'eaten sun', can be seen above visitors at the Jiayuguan Fort on the Great Wall of China in the town of Jiayuguan, Gansu Province August 1, 2008. Eclipses were dangerous omens for ancient Chinese astronomers, but this one comes exactly a week before the torch is lit in Beijing for the opening ceremony of Games designed to restore China's pride and showcase its achievements.

I'm so angered by the oppression of China's people due to these Olympics, I've decided to show my support for them by not watching. Here are a few articles of interest you might want to glance at, but perhaps you are aware already:

I tried to find articles about the workers in Beijing that will be out of work for a month to cut down on pollution- and without pay, but I've lost the link. You can google a lot of the info on religious persecution and especially the oppression of Tibetans.
China wasn't ready to be hosting the Olympics. I am thankful we will see some of their rich culture and history, but it isn't worth it at the cost of basic human rights.
Interesting links. But please tell me, Anonymous in VB, who you are so I can check on you to make sure you are not watching?! I understand your motivation and desire to make a statement but stand behind your beliefs and personalize your posts. This isn't China afterall. Thanks.
